Rods and
bars start as billets and are formed
by extrusion, drawing, and finally,
pickling. We have the capability of
providing anything from bars to wires,
in a variety of materials measuring
from 0.9 to 120 mm in diameter.
Quality rods and wires in all sizes
that meet customer's requirements are
yielded from Poongsan's continuous production
system, covering all processes from
casting to chamfering. High-purity billets
are produced by means of vertical continuous
casting (VCC). Sources of defects, such
as oxidized scales, grooves or scratches,
are eliminated from raw materials using
a modern scalping machine.

Reliable
quality of products is maintained by continuously
treating them by their shape in an automated
line after extruding with a 4,000-ton press.
Extruded products are coils or straight rods
of round, hexagonal, square, or rectangular
shapes.
To produce thin rods or wires, the extruded
coils from the rod block are annealed and
pickled, and are made to go through various
intermediate drawing stages. Large-sized rods
are drawn on a 50,000 lb. drawing bench. Final
drawing, cutting and packaging of the thin
rods are simultaneously performed by a combined-function
rod block machine. For welding wire or other
special applications, a bobbin machine connected
to a vertical wire-drawing machine does the
final drawing. Products are processed to possess
the mechanical properties and the characteristics
that customers require.
For uniform quality
and therefore better workability, for instance,
rods are annealed in a circulation of hot
air to relieve stress.
In addition to standard products,
custom ordering is available for special requirements.
Poongsan's rods are widely used for bolts,
nuts, valves or parts of mechanical, electric,
automotive and industrial facilities. Among
them, in particular, the free-cutting brass
rod is excellent in cuttability, hot shapeability
and weldability, and is widely used for high-precision
machining.
